- Purpose: Clearly state the study objective(s), research question(s), or hypothesis(es).
- Method: Summarize the study design, participants, procedures, measures, and analytical approach.
- Results: Present the principal findings with sufficient detail to support the conclusions. Whenever possible, include quantitative or qualitative results rather than statements indicating that results will be presented.

Formatting Guidelines
- Abstracts must be written in English.
- Abstracts must be submitted using the required headings: Background, Purpose, Method, Results, and Conclusions.

Important Policies
Abstract Submission Policies
- By submitting an abstract, authors confirm that the work is original, accurately represents the research conducted, and has not been previously published in a peer-reviewed journal.
- Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with language editing or formatting. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, scientific integrity, and authorship of all submitted content. AI tools must not be listed as authors.
- Submission of an abstract grants ICBM permission to publish accepted abstracts in congress publications and proceedings.
- Each individual may be listed as the presenting author on a maximum of two (2) abstract submissions. There is no limit on co-authorship.
- Multiple submissions derived from the same dataset are permitted only where each abstract represents a distinct scientific contribution that could reasonably be developed into a separate peer-reviewed publication. Duplicate, overlapping, or fragmented submissions may be rejected.
Registration, Presentation, and Acceptance Requirements
- At least one presenting author for each accepted abstract must register for the congress and pay the applicable registration fee by the Early Bird Registration Deadline.
- Early Bird Registration Deadline: March 19, 2027 (23:59 GMT+8)
- Registration by the deadline is required for the abstract to:
- Be included in the official congress publications; and
- Be scheduled for presentation.
- Each presenting author is responsible for their own congress registration and associated fees.
- If a presenting author is unable to attend, they should arrange for an eligible co-author to present the work in person, subject to congress policies.
- Failure to register by the required deadline may result in removal of the abstract from the scientific program and congress publications.
Review and Selection Process
All submissions will undergo peer review and will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Scientific merit and innovation
- Methodological quality and rigor
- Significance and potential impact
- Relevance to behavioral medicine and congress theme
- Clarity of presentation
The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to determine the final presentation format, session allocation, and Congress track for all accepted submissions. All decisions of the Committee are final.
Empirical and Non-Empirical Contributions
Individual Scientific Abstracts
Abstracts submitted as individual scientific presentations should be based on empirical research and report completed findings. Abstracts containing statements such as “Results will be presented” or “Results will be discussed” are unlikely to be accepted.
Definition of Empirical Research
Empirical research includes, but is not limited to:
- Primary quantitative research (e.g., observational studies, clinical trials, experimental studies);
- Primary qualitative research (e.g., interviews, focus groups, ethnographic studies);
- Mixed-methods research; and
- Secondary research that applies recognized and systematic methodologies, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, scoping reviews, and other evidence synthesis approaches.
Empirical submissions should employ appropriate and accepted methods for data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Traditional literature reviews that do not use a recognized evidence synthesis methodology will not be considered empirical research. Such work may, however, be appropriate for courses, panels, or symposia where relevant.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
The Scientific Program Committee is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity and ethical conduct.
By submitting an abstract, authors confirm that:
- The work accurately represents the research conducted;
- All listed authors have made appropriate scholarly contributions and have approved the submission;
- All applicable institutional ethics approvals and participant consent requirements have been met, where relevant; and
- Any financial or other conflicts of interest have been disclosed in accordance with congress requirements.
Scientific misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
- Plagiarism, including presenting another person’s ideas, data, text, or results as one’s own;
- Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data or research findings;
- Intentional misrepresentation of methods or results;
- Duplicate or redundant publication or submission; and
- Other practices that compromise the integrity of the scientific record.
Where concerns regarding research or publication misconduct arise, the Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to investigate the matter. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond to any concerns in a timely manner. Confirmed misconduct, or failure to respond to requests for clarification, may result in one or more of the following actions:
- Rejection of the abstract;
- Removal of the presentation from the congress program;
- Retraction of the published abstract; and/or
- Restriction of future abstract submissions to ICBM.
Withdrawn Submissions
Authors who need to withdraw an abstract should notify the Scientific Program Committee in writing as early as possible.
Failure to present an accepted abstract without prior notification may affect eligibility for future ICBM abstract submissions.
Exceptions may be considered in circumstances beyond the author’s control, including:
- Significant travel disruption (e.g., severe weather);
- Work-related emergencies; or
- Personal illness or family medical emergencies.
Registration fees are subject to the congress cancellation and refund policy.
